Early Detection of Parkinson’s Disease: Blood Tests Detect Parkinson’s Before Symptoms Appear?

By Devin Wilson, NMD

The symptoms, severity and the rate of progression of Parkinson’s Disease can vary widely from person to person. For some, the initial symptoms are minimal for a number of years, then rapidly progress to more severe symptoms over a short period of time. For others, the onset is quicker with initial symptoms that are more pronounced and rapidly progress. And yet for others, initial symptoms of Parkinson’s disease may go unnoticed, undetected or even misdiagnosed, in some cases for years.

The average individual with a neurodegenerative disease receives 2-3 diagnoses before reaching the conclusive diagnosis. Early and accurate assessment can be vital to implementing effective treatments sooner and halting progression.

No single test can diagnosis Parkinson’s Disease

Although there is not a specific test that can diagnose Parkinson’s, diagnosis typically combines medical history, assessment of symptoms, neurological examination and blood testing to rule out other potential causes. Imaging such as SPECT and MRI are also commonly used.

In addition to these conventional tools, Valley Integrative Health has other tools in the toolbox for early and accurate assessment.

New tests may allow for early detection of Parkinson’s before symptoms appear.

Within the last few years, technological advances in laboratory testing has emerged and scientists have discovered a blood test for Parkinson’s. “A New Test Could Detect Parkinson’s Before Symptoms Appear”, was a title of a 2023 article in Science News which discusses newly available technology for the early detection of Parkinson’s.

In addition, The American Brain Foundation, The American Parkinson’s Disease Association, The Lewy Body Dementia Association, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The Parkinson’s Foundation, and others have released articles notifying the public of newly available tests.

Here are some of the titles of articles discussing these new tests...

  • “A New Test Could Detect Parkinson’s Before Symptoms Appear”

  • “Parkinson’s Biomarkers: Critical Tools for Revolutionizing Research”

  • “A new biological test may revolutionize diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy Bodies”

  • “New Study Finds Blood Test Can Help Track Parkinson’s Symptoms and Progression”.

Valley Integrative Health offers early screening, thorough assessment and comprehensive evidence based treatment of Parkinson’s Disease.

Dr. Devin Wilson incorporates newly released, advanced laboratory tests to fully assess his patient’s biology. Detecting mis-folded synuclein proteins (Hallmark signs of Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Disease) as well as fragmented tRNA allows for early detection, comprehensive understanding of a patient’s disease, and guides treatment decisions more effectively.
