Have you had Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)? You may be at risk for developing Multiple Sclerosis...

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the nerves of the central nervous system. Approximately 1 million Americans are living with it and the cause is unknown.

EBV is an extremely prevalent virus. It is estimated that 90% of the world's population have been exposed to this virus. Most people are infected during childhood or adolescence, with the highest prevalence occurring between the ages of 15 and 25. Symptoms of EBV range from no symptoms at all to severe symptoms which can last for months.

Data suggests that Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is the leading cause of Multiple Sclerosis.

In 2022 researchers analyzing nearly 10 million young adults over a 20 year period found an undeniable connection between MS and a common viral infection called Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV).

The results show that the risk of developing MS increased 32 fold after infection with EBV. This risk was not associated with other viral infections during the same time period. The average time from the first EBV-positive sample to the onset of MS was 5 years. This means the average patient in this study who became infected with EBV developed MS five years later.

Authors of the study concluded "These findings cannot be explained by any known risk factor for MS and suggest EBV as the leading cause of MS".
