Limitations of Conventional Treatments of Parkinson’s Disease
By Devin Wilson, NMD
Although Parkinson’s disease is the worlds fastest growing brain disorder and despite the growing amount of evidence suggesting new risk factors including occupational and household pesticide use, effective treatments are lacking.
Currently, there is no cure and only a small number of approved treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Treatment mostly involves medications that replace dopamine or mimic the action of dopamine, address other important neurotransmitters and effect non-movement symptoms. This approach has been shown to provide some relief, however these medications can have numerous side effects. In addition, their effectiveness varies and reduces over time.
Medications can work, but they are not the only treatment patients should be offered.
Although therapies such as new drugs, gene therapy, deep brain stimulation, stem cell therapy, etc., are being researched and developed, Parkinson’s patient have few options. Fortunately, there are a number of evidence based therapies available that your doctor is unaware of.
Valley Integrative Health offers early screening, thorough assessment and comprehensive evidence based treatment of Parkinson’s Disease.
