Long COVID: No Standardized Treatment but Ozone Therapy May Help
The aftermath of the COVID pandemic has left millions of people with chronic, systemic and often debilitating symptoms known as “Long COVID”. It is estimated that up to 20 million Americans have had Long COVID.
Long Covid has been defined as “an infection-associated chronic condition that occurs after SARS-CoV-2 infection and is present for at least 3 months as a continuous, relapsing and remitting, or progressive disease state that affects one or more organ systems.”
The cause of Long COVID has yet to be determined and there is no standardized treatment approach.
Numerous medications such as sulodexide, ivabradine, high-dose prednisolone, and pirfenidone, and are under investigation for their potential to reduce symptoms of Long COVID. Many nutritional supplements are being investigated as well.
Ozone therapy has been shown to be an effective addition to conventional treatment of mild to severe COVID-19 in clinical studies.
Studies have also demonstrated that ozone therapy improves general symptoms including fatigue and pain, lung function, and inflammation in patients diagnosed with Long Covid.
